And on a sidenote..... friend Sloan gave us an Orchid at Christmas. I'm quite proud of myself, not only is it still alive... but it's sprouted 4 new blooms and has more on the way. Yay me!

Dylan has become snowman obsessed this winter. He did this fantastic drawing of a snowman all by himself the other day. Even threw in the corn-cob pipe. I thought this was incredibly well done for a two year old. My boy has mad skillz!

We took him up the mountain to Camp Arbolado to play in the snow. I used to work there as a camp counselor... hadn't been back in years. So it was really cool to see it again. Here he is making a snow angel.

... and making snowballs to throw at Daddy's truck. Bodie missed the snow... he slept in the truck through the whole excursion.

So here's Bodie big boy. Graduated to the high chair. Let the sloppy eating begin!!!

We've all been sick around here. I underestimated what a bummer cold & flu season can be when you add another kid into the mix. Looks like things are on the upswing finally, although Bodie pulled the vomit card on me (literally) again this evening.

Happiness

Still, one of the greatest things I've ever seen on the Web. This makes me smile every time I read it.

Reworked

Went back into the pirate booty sketch. Looks more dynamic now. I'll be adding some things in there as well. I have an old piece of wood that will be the background of this thing, then I'll layer on top with wood cut-outs. It'll look cool when it's done. There's a little ode to the Pirates of the Carribean ride from Disneyland with the skeleton drinkin' the Rum.

Christmas Pictures

Totally shocking! We took the boys to see Santa the other night and Dylan was actually cool with sitting on Ol' St. Nick's lap. So we were able to score a cute picture of the boys with Santa!

Took this one with the camera set up on the tripod last night. Yet another pleasant surprise. It's nice to have a picture of the four of us together.

Kramer Dog

Our beloved family dog, Kramer (AKA the Double Mer, Carmine), died this morning around 6 am. He was about 15 years old. Had a real good life, but it's a bummer he's gone :(
Here's a picture of Dad & Kramer on the day we got him. Somebody had dropped him off in a field as a puppy, where he was rescued by a drag racing friend who, in turn, brought him to our house knowing Dad would be a sucker for him....

Deckin' the Halls

Michael teases me because I've been talking about how "having a flocked Christmas tree is a dream of mine" for the past 11 years. When I was a kid, our next door neighbors always got flocked Christmas trees. It just looked so decadent and fun to me, I loved going over there just to ogle their tree.... Well alas, my day has come! I LOVE this tree!!!! If there were a way to preserve it, and keep it in our house forever, I would.

I'm working on a sketch for my next piece. This doesn't feel right, yet. I think her back needs to be arched....
...and her facial expression should be naughtier... not so innocent like it is now...

Carrillo Christmas Card '07

The boys & I finished up this year's painting for our Christmas Cards. I think it came out pretty cool. It wasn't easy getting Bodie's handprints...but he was a pretty good sport about the whole thing.

Scrumdiliumptious!

Here's the last of the Wonka Girls, "Scrumdiliumptious Bar". I'll be shipping them out on Monday. They were supposed to be shipped before Thanksgiving, but I ran out of the stuff I use to crackle, and had to order some more from some random internet site.. took awhile to get here. So finally, off they go. The show opens December 7, at the Alcove Gallery in Atlanta, GA.

I'm really happy with the way they all three look together. I have a four person show coming up at the Alcove in February, so now to start painting for that!

Fall Retreat

We were supposed to go to my parents' house for Thanksgiving, but my Mom has got pneumonia, so that was cancelled. Luckily, I had taken the boys by the previous week to see "Grammy & Poppa". I think Dyl is going to be a car guy. He's pretty obsessed with cars, and loves just hangin' out and being a gearhead with Poppa. This is the inside of my Dad's garage. I always loved hanging out in the garage. When I was a wee tike, probably around Dylan's age, I busied myself by slapping stickers onto this side of the racecar. I totally screwed up the gold leafing on the car. Dad has incredible tolerance, I'm really surprised the man ever spoke to me again...

So on Thanksgiving we ended up going to Michael's parents' house. It was cool, until Dylan had a meltdown and got so worked up that he threw up into the hands of Mike's Mother at the dinner-table. Way to kill the mood, Dyl. Saturday night Dylan spent the night with his Nana & Pops, and Michael and I went up to Camp Wrightwood for "Fall Retreat '07". Sloan & Joseph, who run the camp, invited a little group of friends up for the night. This is going to be an annual thing that just started last year. Here's the lodge, where we spent most of the evening.

Sloan made one helluva meal. The Prime Rib Roast weighed in at a whopping 14.5 lbs. The fixin's were spectacular, sweet potatoes with a lemon-ginger sauce, green beans with sauteed pearl onions, and mashed potatoes. Here's Sloan with the Roast Beast.

Tommy Day!

Working on the second Wonka piece now, I'll post pics when it's finished.

I took this picture of Bodie a few days ago... he's so gosh- darned cute!

Yesterday we took Dylan to the Railroad Museum in Perris, CA for "A Day out with Thomas". It was really cool. Michael and I underestimated how huge this thing would be. We just thought it was going to be some lame little train ride, not many poeple. But when we got there we were shocked by the tons of parents and kids everywhere. We took a train ride on these old passenger cars that were hooked on to Thomas.

It made me think a lot about my late Granddad, Buck. He was such a bad-ass. He used to hop trains all the time and just ride the rails, see where it would take him. He actually recorded himself on tape telling all of these awesome train hopping stories. He gave them to my brother. I need to get copies of those things. He even came to California in a covered wagon. That dude was solid gold.

I want to go back and check that place out again when it's not so crowded. There was a ton of history to see there. Michael and I also want to take the boys to check out the old fighter planes at March Air Force Base.... maybe that could be our next outing.
